Fundraising for Blesma The Limbless Veterans

Exeter 'Live Better' marathon: May 11th 2025

It’s been a few years since I got my running shoes on but last December I signed up for the Exeter Marathon – choosing to run for Blesma, the limbless veterans charity. I’ve got Royal Navy roots and living in a military town, it seemed a good fit, especially after hearing about the amazing work they do.

I'm really happy with my marathon result...

The previous week, I wasn’t sure if I would make the event due to injury and missing over a week of training, but I smashed it.
My aim was under 4.5 hours, and I had 4 minutes to spare. Added bonus Harvey joined me for the last half mile.

Just Giving

So far, I have raised £424 for Blesma, the limbless veterans charity. The link will be open for a few more days if you would like to sponsor me. If you have already done so, thank you. I really appreciate all the support.

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, is dedicated to assisting serving and ex-Service men and women who have suffered life-changing limb loss or the loss of use of a limb, an eye or loss of sight. We support these men and women in their communities throughout the UK and overseas.

We work tirelessly for our Members when the conflicts that have affected their lives are no longer a focal point in the nation’s media. Since 1932, we have been the only national Service charity that supports limbless veterans for the duration of their lives. Our Members range from the youngest amputee veterans to those who fought in WWII, some having lived with limb loss for more than half a century. Modern medicine transforms the physical injury, but it is a complicated process to treat the emotional trauma and related lifelong health problems.

Blesma provides a network where Members not only enjoy support from our professional Welfare Team, but where they have the opportunity to engage with others who have similar injuries and backgrounds to themselves, building an important fellowship with each other to overcome everyday battles.

For those of you who took part in other running events this weekend - let me know how it went in the comments below - I look forward to reading all about it.
